Sovereign Stone Campaign Sourcebook
Published in Paperback by Steve Jackson Games (March, 2002)
Author: Sovereign Press
Average review score:

the best RPG ever!
Sov Stone is the best ever! It's very original, very fun, very easy to learn and grasp the ideas. If you read the novels it's even better and easier! The Codex: Mysterium and all the other supplements are a must have, whether you play the game or not. They are simply fun to read! Now that the game is D20, it's easy to roll up characters and squeeze them into the game. There are two scenarios on the market and 2 more if you go to Sovstone.com. All 4 are fun, interesting, and very STORY oriented instead of hack & slash. So far my players are so intrigued they all pester me to death for more Sov Stone stuff to read, to get to know the world and the races. Also on the website you can find additional info all of the those things. Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman, of Dragonlance and DeathGate Cycle, wrote the books, and Margaret's company, Sovereign Press, puts out the game. Larry Elmore created it, and provides EXCELLENT cover artwork on all of the books, and the game books too! TRY IT YOU WILL LOVE IT!!!!

Spanish Cinema (Inside Film Series)
Published in Paperback by Longman (15 October, 2001)
Author: Rob Stone
Average review score:

For fans and students of Spanish, European and World Cinema
This a concise, informative and very entertaining book on Spanish cinema. It's an eclectic book (there's no emphasis on Bunuel or Almodovar to the exclusion of all else) but this means that the chapters cover subjects like early Spanish cinema, Spanish cinema during the dictatorship and during the political transition. The book has several interviews with important people in Spanish cinema. There is also a fascinating chapter on Basque cinema, a beautifully written chapter on the theme of childhood in Spanish cinema, a great chapter on sexy Spanish film stars and chapters on two auteurs - the more serious one on Carlos Saura and a lively, fun one on a director called Julio Medem that's probably the best bit of the book. I'd never heard of Medem before but now I've seen two of his films on video (The Red Squirrel and Lovers of the Arctic Circle)and they've both become my favourites. Stone writes with a confident and expert tone that's stylish and almost always accessible and you come away having learned as much about the history of Spain as you do about its cinema. I can recommend this book very highly to fans and students of Spanish and European cinema.

Speak Antique
As an antique art dealer- I am very well read and knowledgeable in the arts, but, I don't know it all! Speak Antique is a perfect reference book for me to go to when I have come across words that I am familiar with-but am just not sure how to exactly pronounce. Speak Antique gives me the confidence to know that I sound like I know what I am talking about! Thanks Speak Antique!

Speaking Stones : World Cultural Heritage Sites in India
Published in Paperback by Eicher Goodearth Ltd (01 January, 2001)
Author: Swati Mitra

Not just the Taj Mahal; Amazing places to visit in India
Everyone thinks "Taj Mahal" when they think of sightseeing in India. The Taj is indeed magnificent; it's a long car ride out of New Delhi but worth the visit. However, near Agra are other sites listed in this book that are just as amazing, and worth visiting because they will round out your view of the history of the area. (Did you know a black marble version of the Taj was designed by the same Shah Jahan, to be built as his own tomb nearby? And that his son imprisoned him in the nearby Red Fort, with a view of the Taj from his luxurious cell?)

Actually, in Delhi we were even more impressed by the Qutb Minar, which despite its being called a minaret (Islamic Prayer Tower) was really an astronomical observatory. If you are lucky and get a highly educated guide (ours was a retired university professor who volunteers there) you will find out the interesting background behind the tower, the Hindu design of the temple, the mysterious iron pillar and more. But don't rely on getting a good guide; we were lucky. Better to have this book to make sure you know what you are going to see.

India has a fabulous wealth of World Heritage sites and some of the most impressive architecture and archeology in the world. If you get a chance to go to India, you should get this book to make sure you can visit some of these wonders. The World Heritage sites are by far not the only things worth seeing in India, but they are definitely at the top of the list. This book will help you locate and select these places if you get the opportunity to visit.

Speaking Up: A Book for Every Woman Who Talks
Published in Paperback by Carroll & Graf (September, 1994)
Authors: Janet Stone and Jane Bachner
Average review score:

This is a new edition of a 70s Boston women's how-to book!
Stone and Bachner were both active in the famously independent Eastern Massachusetts Chapter of the National Organization for Women in the early 1970s. Bacher was also moderator of one of the earliest women's radio talk shows in the Boston area, WBUR's "If A Woman Answers. . . Hang On." For 25 years, individually and together, they have taught consciousness raising techniques and public speaking in a variety of venues and occasionally even for profit. This updated edition of their 1976 handbook suggests a solution to every problem a fledgling public speaker may face (including how to manage hostile questions), and not incidentally weaves in a great deal of anecdotal material concerning (1) the history of women speaking in public and (2) the shift in public manners that a genuine restructuring of the relations between the sexes requires. Highly recommended for its second-wave historical as well as its practical value.

The Stars and the Stones: Ancient Art and Astronomy in Ireland
Published in Hardcover by Thames & Hudson (March, 1984)
Author: Martin Brennan
Average review score:

Revolutionary.
Before Martin Brennan and his team researched the Boyne Valley cairns and Knowth, few archeologists took the locals seriously when they told stories of the structures. Even after the studies were complete many archeologists wouldn't comment on what the team found. Now, years later, there is a grudging admittance that Brennan's astronishing work is correct. The concepts and the illustrations will take your breath away. Prepare to be astounded.

Step into the Stone Age (Step into Series)
Published in Hardcover by Lorenz Books (September, 1998)
Authors: Charlotte Evans, Philip Steele, and Charlotte Hurdman
Average review score:

Fascinating Facts from 200 million years ago
Although recommended for 8-12 year olds, I found this book interesting and informative as an adult. Visually, this book is attractive with photographs of actual artifacts and drawings. Examples in today's hunter-gatherer civilizations are provided in addition to the historical and archeological information related to the Stone Age. The timelines included are easily read and informative, as are the maps. Most appealing for parents and schools is the inclusion of 15 step-by-step projects which demonstrate the creation of products used daily from this period in prehistory. An index and glossary are included, and chapter headings deal with a single aspect of life at that time, eg. "Shelter," "The Arts," "Warfare and Weapons," etc.
